The acquisition of Novayre Solutions paves the way towards a single platform to manage humans, software robots and AI

Appian, the developer of a ‘low-code’
automation platform originally intended to simplify application development, is
expanding into the robotic process automation (RPA) market with the acquisition
of Spanish startup Novayre Solutions.

Novayre has built an PRA platform called
Jidoka that has emerged as the highest-rated RPA tool on Gartner Peer Insights,
a service dedicated to enterprise IT software reviews.

The financial details of the transaction
were not disclosed; the deal is intended to boost Appian’s AI credentials as it
transforms into a one-stop-shop for automation, following an IPO in 2017.

According to Forrester, the RPA market is
expected to reach $12 billion by 2023.

“Automation with a human touch”

Novayre is a small outfit established in
2008 to improve the automation of business processes.

Jidoka is a word originally coined by Toyota,
pronounced the same as the Japanese word for automation, but with the added connotations of
humanism and creating value.

The platform is composed of a dashboard
that provides visual information about the execution of each robot, and a
server that coordinates actions related to the deployment of the robots.

Appian plans to unify its low-code development
and Novayre’s RPA in one comprehensive automation platform that would enable customers
to orchestrate the work of humans, software robots and machine learning models.

“Our shared vision for automation makes
this a natural fit for Novayre. By joining forces with Appian, we will make it
easier for companies to adopt and deploy RPA at enterprise scale,” said Víctor
Ayllón, CEO of Novayre.

The combined platform will be able to
manage software robots from third parties, including those from major RPA vendors
like UIPath and Blue Prism.

The management tools for the robot army will
be available both online and on mobile devices, while the platform itself will
be hosted in Appian’s own cloud.
