Choosing Your First Generative AI Use Cases
To get started with generative AI, first focus on areas that can improve human experiences with information.
Google searches for “how to prompt AI” reached an all-time high in October
Google has launched a new AI prompting training course to help address the growing need for prompting skills. The course is developed by AI experts at Google and Deepmind, with input from companies including Detroit-based fintech firm Rocket Companies and Siemens.
The new "Google prompting essentials" online course will provide practical, hands-on training to help people prompt AI tools effectively, the company said.
The course includes how to develop advanced prompting skills to create personalized AI agents and to build a library of reusable prompts as well as analyzing data, making visualizations and using AI responsibly by recognizing biases and errors.
The 10-hour course is product agnostic and teaches techniques that can be applied across industries and generative AI tools. No experience is required.
Once completed, students would earn a certificate from Google to share with their networks.
As AI adoption increases, both employers and workers see AI skills as key to business and career growth, driving a surge in demand for training, the company said.
Yet a Sales Force digital skills survey last year found that only one in 10 global workers have in-demand AI skills.
And in October, Google searches for “how to prompt AI” reached an all-time high in the U.S.
Effective prompting is key to unlocking generative AI’s full potential, said Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grow with Google.
"Google's prompting essentials course, developed by Google experts with input from leading companies, equips people at all experience levels with the skills to prompt AI tools for increased productivity, creativity and problem-solving at work and in everyday life,” she said.
Rocket Companies and Siemens will provide the new course with upskilling resources for employees.
Daniela Proust, senior vice president and head of People & Organization at Siemens USA, said the new course will help to "empower" workers to apply AI with purpose and advances the company’s commitment to helping its people develop skills for life.
The new course builds on Google's foundational AI Essentials course, the most popular generative AI course of all time on Coursera globally. The courses are part of the company’s commitment to make AI training universally accessible.
This includes the Google career certificates program, which equips learners for in-demand jobs and now includes practical AI tips for growing industries including data analytics, cybersecurity and IT support.
