Meta to Open $10B AI Data Center in Louisiana
Meta is opening a $10 billion artificial intelligence data center in Louisiana.
Construction of the 4 million square foot data center located in Richland Parish is expected to begin this month and run through 2030.
The Louisiana facility would be the largest of Meta’s 20 data centers. When fully operational, it would be optimized to support Meta's AI workloads, contributing to the advanced infrastructure that powers Meta's technologies, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads
"Meta is building the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible. And this data center will be an important part of that mission," said Kevin Janda, Meta director of data center strategy. "Richland Parish in Louisiana is an outstanding location for Meta to call home for a number of reasons.
How IBM is Using AI to Disrupt Consultancy

Technology consultants must always be prepared to practice what they preach to ensure their advice is up-to-date, credible and proven. IBM’s consultancy division is no exception.
It recently launched IBM Consulting Advantage, an AI services platform designed to help consultants with everything from cloud transformation strategy to accelerating app development.
It uses generative AI-powered agents and assistants alongside IBM and its partners’ human expertise. Customers can talk to “digital personas” to understand their needs, restructure data sets quickly to maximize benefits and equip junior workers with the expertise of seasoned engineers.
It also gives IBM consultants access to the entire enterprise to deliver complex solutions for clients faster and at scale.
New York Governor Sets Out AI Ambitions at AI Summit New York
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has the distinction of being the first woman to hold this office and the first governor from upstate New York in more than a century. Under her leadership, New York has solidified its reputation as a global powerhouse, spearheading innovation and high-tech chip manufacturing.
Speaking at the AI Summit New York, Hochul pointed out that she is also the first governor of New York to fully embrace AI. Given her technology resume, that comes as no surprise.
Just two months ago Hochul announced that New York State had taken the first steps “into a tomorrow that is defined by possibility” by unveiling two supercomputers that are more powerful than any others for public use in the United States.
“As I saw those massive boxes, I knew that New York had shown the world that when it comes to the AI revolution, we fully intend to lead the way,” she said. “I don't need to tell people in this room what AI can do, what it can deliver, but I do want to tell you how the great state of New York intends to harness it.”

Amazon Launches New Generation of LLM Foundation Models
https://aibusiness.com/nlp/amazon-launches-new-generation-of-llm-foundation-models
Amazon has launched a new generation of foundation models called Amazon Nova that can process text, image and video as prompts. Applications powered by the models enable users to understand videos, charts and documents, or generate videos and other multimedia content, the company said.
The new LLMs available include Nova Micro, a text-only model that Amazon said delivers the lowest latency response at a very low cost, and Nova Lite, a low-cost multimodal model that is “lightning fast” for processing image, video and text inputs.
In addition, the multimodal model Nova Pro offers the “best combination of accuracy, speed and cost” for a wide range of tasks. Another, Nova Canvas, can be used for video generation.
The new LLMs are available in Amazon Bedrock, which offers a choice of high-performing foundation models.
Leaders Divided on Level of Governance Needed for Responsible AI
Leaders are at odds on how to craft responsible AI, diverging between a governance-led and experiment-first approach, with regulators struggling even more to get the balance right.
These insights were revealed at last week’s AI Leaders Forum, where industry leaders discussed the best approaches to AI adoption and governance.
Speaking on a panel about responsible AI, Andre Rogaczewski, CEO of Netcompany, a digital solutions provider, said there had been too much talk about ethics and regulation, and companies should just “make it happen.”
He said there are ways to overcome legitimate concerns about protecting data and using AI for decision-making, such as data filters and using it as an assistant only, but the technology is maturing and companies risk falling behind without investment.
