The latest stage in a 20-year relationship

Indian conglomerate Wipro and IBM are set to collaborate on a suite of enterprise solutions leveraging AI, machine learning, cloud and Internet of Things capabilities.

The alliance calls for Wipro to develop hybrid cloud offerings to help businesses “migrate, manage and transform mission-critical workloads and applications, with security across public or private cloud and on-premises IT environments.”

The public cloud services in this instance would, of course, be provided by IBM.

Friends in high places

The partnership is the latest episode in a 20-year relationship between IBM and Wipro – and it’s hardly the only major cloud provider to team up with the multinational IT, consulting and system integration services firm.

Wipro previously partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS), eventually embedding its public cloud into all of Wipro’s go-to-market solutions.

It also operates a dedicated Microsoft Azure cloud services business unit, and offers Oracle Cloud in a software-as-a-service model.

The IBM Cloud-based offerings will be developed at the new Wipro IBM Novus Lounge in Bengaluru, India.

“Customers will have remote access to IBM and Red Hat solutions, designed to help them scale their technology investments for improved experience and business agility with connected insights,” Wipro said in the announcement.

The company added that it will focus on solutions for customers in banking and financial services, energy and utilities, retail, manufacturing and healthcare.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant for professional and managed public cloud services in 2019 named Wipro as one of the leaders, along with Accenture, Rackspace, Smartronix, Deloitte and Infosys.
