Utilizing Nvidia’s DGX-1 machines

IT services and consulting provider HCL Technologies is set to open an AI lab in Noida, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

It will use the new infrastructure hub to upskill its engineers and architects to allow them to develop customer and industry-specific products. The company has also joined Nvidia’s global partner network in view of future collaborations on AI projects.

Fostering creativity

HCL operates three business units: IT and Business Services (ITBS), Engineering and R&D Services (ERS) and Products & Platforms (P&P).

The ITBS arm assists firms with their digital strategies, namely through consultancy and the development of applications, infrastructure and digital process operations.

ERS focuses on engineering services and solutions in all aspects of product development and platform engineering, while P&P is the division responsible for software products.

Case studies listed on HCL's website include a partnership with Greater Manchester Police, named ‘Innovation of the Year’ Gold Winner, and ‘Overall Winner’ at the UK Business Awards 2020.

The company, which operates in 49 countries and whose consolidated net revenue in the past year reached $9.93 billion, has more than alliances with other technology firms which allow it to create ‘niche’ technologies and adapt to specific customer requirements.

GH Rao, president responsible for the new lab, engineering, and R&D services, said the facility will serve as a “learning center for next-generation technologies, as well as an incubation zone for transformational business solutions.

The space will allow HCL's customers and partners to develop proof of concept and fully-fledged AI products specific to their industries, focusing on computer vision, predictive modeling, failure analysis, optimization, product intelligence, data engineering, and data management programs.

The lab will be powered by Nvidia DGX-1 systems, the GPU-based, integrated HPC servers designed to process AI workloads.

“Nvidia is dedicated to powering the AI revolution across industries and across the globe,” Vishal Dhupar, managing director for Nvidia South Asia, said. “We are excited by the work HCL is doing to empower organizations in India with rich AI solutions to meet their business and technology requirements.”
