The two nations also agreed to develop interoperable AI governance frameworks.

The U.S. and Singapore have agreed to collaborate on AI and cybersecurity efforts.

President Joe Biden met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the Oval Office this week to discuss closer ties. Agreements related to AI were struck on the margins of the meeting by representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce and Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The pair of nations agreed to develop interoperable artificial intelligence governance frameworks and support the adoption of ethical AI, according to a joint statement. They plan to co-organize mapping exercises, workshops, and other events to achieve these goals.

The respective departments will also work to develop cybersecurity best practices related to areas including regional capacity building programs on smart cities.

Singapore and the U.S. are also considering collaborating on common technical standards covering digital economy and smart cities, energy and environmental technologies, advanced manufacturing and supply chain resilience and health care.

Such collaborations would work to identify ways to create common technical standards and build more trustworthy and interoperable systems.

“This work demonstrates the Commerce Department’s continued commitment to foster collaboration among U.S. and Singapore companies on emerging topics and issues that will not only allow us to build back from the pandemic but also help ensure that economic growth in the future is both robust and inclusive,” said Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
