Microsoft teams with Oracle on database services

Oracle’s Database Service is now available on Microsoft Azure, as the two tech titans team to provide cloud-based application-building tools.

The collaboration allows users to seamlessly move data from Oracle’s databases to Azure.

Now generally available, customers will not be charged to transfer data between the two platforms. However, users will be required to pay for services beyond data transfer, like Azure Synapse, Microsoft’s data analytics tool.

Oracle and Microsoft promised the new service has a limited delay in communication. Users can also enjoy a single sign-on process.

Data management company Veritas Technologies, AT&T and Marriott International were among those given early access.

“Microsoft and Oracle have a long history of working together to support the needs of our joint customers, and this partnership is an example of how we offer customer choice and flexibility as they digitally transform with cloud technology,” said Corey Sanders, corporate vice president, Microsoft Cloud for Industry and Global Expansion. “Oracle’s decision to select Microsoft as its preferred partner deepens the relationship between our two companies and provides customers with the assurance of working with two industry leaders.”

The partnership is an expansion of the pair’s prior work. Over the last three years, the companies have offered Oracle’s Interconnect service on Azure, providing organizations access to secure and private connections.
