Users can search a database of more than 300 AI standards

The Alan Turing Institute has officially launched the AI Standards Hub - designed to improve AI governance.

Announced back in January, the repository aims to bring various stakeholders together to understand, use and develop AI standards.

The Hub will house a Standards Database – a searchable database containing nearly 300 AI-related standards.

“This first-of-its-kind initiative is the result of great collaboration and hard work,” said Rebecca Anselmetti, senior policy advisor and AI standards lead by the U.K. Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

The new Standards Hub will also feature online training materials, community forums and research databases.

Alongside virtual offerings, the Hub will be tasked with putting on live events and engaging in international engagement.

The Standards Hub was launched in a pilot earlier this year, with the Turing Institute receiving help from both the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

The U.K. government is also supporting the Hub, with its official launch of the newly formed Truss administration's first foray into AI.

"As with any quickly-evolving, innovative technology, it is essential that we maintain the public trust as AI continues to play a greater role in our day-to-day lives," said U.K. science minister Nusrat Ghani.

“That’s why it’s so encouraging to see the esteemed Alan Turing Institute launch the AI Standards Hub, helping to shape and strengthen the governance of AI globally, delivering on the government’s National AI Strategy and marking the U.K.’s position at the forefront of AI technology.”

To follow the standards and participate in the Hub’s discussions, users need to create an account. A signup sheet is available here.
