Informa Tech unites analysts under a new banner: Omdia

Omdia = Tractica + Ovum + IHS + Heavy Reading

Business intelligence, events and training giant Informa has united all of its technology research businesses under a single new brand, called Omdia.

It combines the recently acquired chunks of IHS Markit with Heavy Reading, Ovum and Tractica. The latter two should be especially familiar to AI Business readers, since both firms publish extensive research on specific applications of artificial intelligence.

Omdia will employ a total of 400 technology analysts worldwide and publish more than 3,000 research reports every year, competing against the world’s largest research firms, including Gartner and Forrester.

The official launch of the new organization will take place on February 20.

Greater than the sum of its parts

Informa, the parent company of AI Business, has been expanding its research and analytics offering, acquiring emerging technology specialist Tractica in 2018, and the majority of IHS Markit’s technology, media and telecommunications research business in 2019.

Omdia will replace all existing brands within Informa Tech’s research portfolio. It will be led by the division’s former COO Mike Phillips, who arrived at Informa with the acquisition of Ovum’s parent Datamonitor back in 2007.

“Like the technology market that we serve, Omdia is greater than the sum of its parts,” Phillips said.

“Accelerated innovation across domains such as 5G, AI, IoT, Cloud and Edge is transforming our world. This in turn drives new requirements into domains such as cyber security and semiconductor design. Omdia analysts work collaboratively to strengthen our insights into each individual domain, and to address sector-wide challenges such as data privacy and sustainability. We are excited about the new benefits and enhanced services we can now bring to our customers.”

The first research paper from Omdia, dedicated to 5G and the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, has been published and is available here.
