Baidu has partnered with AI sports technology firm Pixellot. The agreement will see Baidu help the company expand into the Chinese sports market.

Pixellot’s platform uses AI to capture, produce and stream sports games without using a camera operator. AI-enabled cameras can track players and balls throughout sports play. The technology can also analyze players and games leveraging its video breakdown capabilities. The system also has the ability to do analytics for highlights and reviews, which can enhance team performance and allow coaches to advise their players from professional levels right down to youth leagues.

The deal will see Pixellot install 200 systems across China. Over the next three years, the company will add another 6,000 systems, a move that will strengthen Baidu’s presence in China’s sports sector. Pixellot will support live game streaming technology, advertising placement and automated highlights.

“It’s a unique opportunity for us to collaborate with Pixellot and Baidu, and we are looking forward to the project’s success,” said Liu Gang, director of Chengdu Event Operation Center.

Chengdu, China is the site of the official launch this month, with a local software provider also involved in proceedings.

Pixellot’s sports production tech is already used in more than 27,000 venues. More than two million games have been produced and streamed. The objective is to help inspire a more active lifestyle and engage local communities with their hometown teams.

“We see huge potential for growth in China’s sports market, and this partnership is a significant step towards realizing that potential,” said Liu Chuan, solution director of Baidu’s Intelligent Cloud Sports Industry.
