OpenAI has released its official ChatGPT app for iOS, a likely reprieve for scores of consumers tired of wading through counterfeit doppelgangers in Apple’s App Store.

The ChatGPT app works on iOS versions 16.1 or later. It offers a free download and free use of the AI chatbot, with no ads, and syncs the user’s history across devices. ChatGPT+ users can log in to use the premium service while an in-app purchase feature lets non-subscribers sign up.

OpenAI said the app will be updated with the latest model improvements.

OpenAI said it may collect data that links to the user’s identity. This data consists of contact information, user content, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics.

OpenAI's official app comes after ChatGPT knockoffs began inundating the Apple App Store since the chatbot's release. Several apps reportedly charge users even though there is a free version of ChatGPT. In several cases, the apps either do not work or even exist.
