Seattle-based AI security tool provider Protect AI is acquiring SydeLabs, which develops automated simulation technologies for AI systems.

Founded less than a year ago by former Google staff, the Bangalore-based SydeLabs developed SydeBox, an AI-powered tool capable of automating red teaming.

Red teaming is when developers and security professionals stress-test AI models by exploiting gaps within the models' security architecture.

By automating the process, SydeLabs customers can more easily identify and mitigate vulnerabilities in their generative AI systems, including large language models.

Protect AI has acquired the company, with SydeLabs set to complement its Seattle and Berlin-based teams.

“Protect AI is continuously looking to add products to our AI security posture management platform that help our customers build a safer AI-powered world,” said Ian Swanson, Protect’s CEO. “The acquisition of SydeLabs extends the Protect AI platform with unmatched red teaming capabilities and immediately provides our customers with the ability to stress test, benchmark and harden their large language models against security risks.”

SydeLab’s SydeBox platform will be integrated into Protect’s AI platform under the new brand name Protect AI Recon.

Recon users can leverage tools to identify vulnerabilities in enterprise-grade AI models and systems.

It’ll feature no-code integration, model-agnostic scanning and detailed threat profiling across attack fronts such as prompt injection attacks and input manipulations to enable business users to effectively evaluate the security and safety of generative AI systems.

“The combination of SydeLabs’ SydeBox and Protect AI’s platform provides customers a comprehensive defense-in-depth solution for building, managing, testing, deploying and monitoring large language models,” said Ruchir Patwa, SydeLabs’ co-founder. “We couldn't be more excited to join the Protect AI mission and the prospect of what we can achieve in terms of helping companies of all sizes adopt and deploy more secure large language models and AI applications.”

No financial details of the acquisition were disclosed.
