Return of the King

Elvis Presley is set to return to the stage thanks to AI. The King of Rock 'n' Roll will perform via hologram at a launch event in London this November. Other cities will follow.

British-based Layered Reality has created what it describes as the "world's first Elvis immersive experience.”

Fans will see a life-sized digital version of Elvis, which was built using thousands of hours of footage to create "never seen before" performances.

Dubbed Elvis Evolution, the show will also expand to Tokyo, Berlin and Las Vegas, where the King held a residency until his death in 1977.

Swedish pop group Abba found success with similar shows in London, with the virtual Voyage tour routinely selling out into its second year of running.

Intel spins out generative AI startup

Chipmaker Intel is spinning out its generative AI group called Articul8 AI, which offers a turnkey generative AI software platform to help large enterprise customers operationalize and scale AI.

DigitalBridge Ventures will be the lead investor. Other investors are Intel, Fin Capital, Mindset Ventures, Communitas Capital, GiantLeap Capital, GS Futures and Zain Group.

Articul8 will offer enterprise customers a full-stack, vertically optimized and secure generative AI software platform. The platform provides AI capabilities to keep customer data, training and inference within the enterprise security parameter, according to Intel. The platform also gives customers a choice of cloud, on-prem, or hybrid deployment.

The vice president and general manager of Intel’s Data Center and AI Group, Arun Subramaniyan, was named the CEO of Articul8.

AI is a top priority for new G7 presidency

AI is set to be among the top themes of the Italian presidency of the G7. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said she was “hugely concerned” about AI’s impact on the labor market.

Reuters reports that the G7 will host a special session before the June leaders’ summit specifically focusing on AI

"Today we are faced with a revolution where [human] intellect is in danger of being replaced,” she said.

G7 nations have already committed to creating an AI code of conduct. Unveiled in late October, member nations created the Hiroshima AI Process which would see the creation of responsible AI projects and analyzing risks of generative AI.

PR professionals secretly using AI

Public relations professionals are increasingly making use of AI tools, according to a new report from MuckRack.

The State of AI in PR 2024 report found that AI usage among PR professionals rose from 28% in March 2023 to 64% in December 2023.

Some 74% of 1,000 surveyed professionals reported that AI increased the quality of their work, while 89% said AI has increased their productivity and speed. Writing copy for social media was the most popular use for AI.

Some 21% of agency PRs that use AI said they would never disclose that they use AI to their clients. Just 6% of PRs working for brands believe that is the right move.

Of the PRs not using AI tools, 43% said the output was too unpredictable while 40% expressed privacy concerns. Around one in three said AI cannot help improve their work.
