ChatGPT’s Custom Instructions, which lets users customize the chatbot’s responses or output, is now available to non-paying users except for those in the EU and U.K.
The beta version was previously available only to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, the chatbot’s premium service.
With Custom Instructions, users can tell ChatGPT just once about themselves and what types of responses they would like so the chatbot will apply this lens to future responses.
For example, with Custom Instructions enabled, a user can tell ChatGPT that they are a family of six and ChatGPT will automatically account for six servings in future grocery lists.
Another example is a developer telling ChatGPT it prefers code that’s not Python and the chatbot will remember it for future responses.
Using the new instruction option works on plugins, too.
To add instructions, click on your name on your ChatGPT account and select ‘Custom Instructions.’ Write something about yourself, such as 'I am a high school teacher,' and specify what responses you would like, such as whether or not ChatGPT should have opinions. You can modify your choices at any time.
