Called Coca-Cola Y3000, the name is meant to evoke the future of the beverage in the year 3000. It was developed to "bring the flavor of tomorrow to Coke fans," the company obliquely said. What does the future taste like? Fruity, according to Reddit users who have tried it.
The AI evoked "how fans envision the future through emotions, aspirations, colors, flavors," the company said. The can's design is meant to reflect a "morphing, evolving state" in violet, magenta and cyan with a silver background to give it a "futuristic" feel. The Y3000 packaging includes a QR code that customers can scan to access Coca-Cola's Creations site and toy around with a scenario of what the world looks like in the year 3000.
Consumers can purchase regular sugar or zero sugar Y3000 for the same price as a standard Coke. It is currently available for a limited time in the U.S. and Canada with the zero-sugar version also available in China, Europe and Africa.
The Y3000 was created as part of the Creations campaign that connects consumers with merchandise and real-life events with online experiences. Coca-Cola used Creations to create other flavors, like Starlight, inspired by space.
