La-Z-Boy's new AI recliner tells your friends ‘seating's unavailable’ so users can kick back instead of going out
Recliner sofa makers La-Z-Boy have put a spin on famous chairs using AI, creating an AI-powered recliner that generates excuses to cancel plans.
Dubbed The Decliner, the chair automatically responds to text messages so users can sit back and relax. The chair’s handle, which typically reclines the plush chair, now generate an excuse not to go out.
The company is holding a contest to come up with the most creative excuses for canceling. Text ideas can be submitted via social media by simply tagging @Lazboy and using the hashtags #LongLiveTheLazy and #excuse.
The best excuses will receive a limited-edition Decliner recliner.
The new marketing campaign, called “Long Live the Lazy” was created by California marketing agency, RPA. Creative agency Colle McVoy designed the branding elements and consumer activation campaign. The idea is to embrace the joy of missing out.
The commercial campaign is a 30-second spot based on the theme of “We The Lazy” with a diverse cast praising the right to be lazy. The ads will appear in mobile gaming channels, sports networks and streaming music channels.
“Our ‘Long Live the Lazy’ platform reflects the reality that everyone occasionally needs the time and space to power down, kick up their feet, and make comfort their top priority,” said Christy Hoskins, Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, La-Z-Boy.
The iconic La-Z-Boy recliner was created by two cousins from Michigan. The La-Z-Boy company is nearly 100 years old and also produces furniture under brands like England, Kincaid, American Drew and Hammary.
