Met Gala AI-Generated Images of Katy Perry, Rihanna Deceive Fans
The viral AI images were given away by distorted faces, incorrect backgrounds and the absence of both singers
Despite the absence of Katy Perry and Rihanna at the annual Met Gala in New York, their AI-generated viral images circulating on social media deceived many into believing they were at the star-studded event.
Viral images of the pair began circulating on social media, showing the singers donning green and white gowns adorned with flowers.
The images were in fact AI-generated. Even Katy Perry’s mother, Mary, fell for them, according to screenshots of a conversation posted on the singer’s Instagram.
Considered one of the biggest events in fashion, the Met Gala features A-list celebrities flaunting intricate fashion showpieces.
There were some giveaways that the images were fake. The carpet in the photo was one. The images showed blue and red carpets, while a green fabric was used at this year’s event.
The images also had distorted faces and body parts of photographers.
But the main giveaway was that neither singer was in attendance. Perry said later she was busy with work while Rihanna missed the event due to flu.
The Fake Met Gala images are the latest AI generations to go viral on social media. Previous pictures included the Pope in a Balenciaga-style puffer coat and authorities pouncing on a furious Trump to arrest him.
